JUST RETURNED FROM TROPHY BASS LODGE
Feb. 16, 2009
David,
Our trip to Trophy Bass Lodge on Lake Huites was a fishing trip of a lifetime for two Tennessee country boys.  The lodge, food, guides and fishing was outstanding.  We caught from 50 to 70 fish each morning then looked for only big fish after lunch, we both caught personal best fish, my best five one afternoon exceeded 40 pounds!  The numbers of fish from 5 to 9 pounds were incredible. Trophy Bass Lodge is a first class operation and we look forward to our next visit.

AllanNo Time For Bird Watching...Alan with a 9.80

David,

What a glorious time I had at the Trophy Bass Lodge on Lake Huites, Mexico. I have never in my life caught so many bass in 6 days. I have been a bass fisherman all my life starting as a kid with my father fishing in Wisconsin. Your lodge was heaven to me. The guides were wonderful and helpful. The chef, Freddie, was marvelous. The scenery was great. The fishing was usually so fast that we didn't get much time to bird watch. Even the bird watching was good. Bill regretted not bringing his bird books and binoculars but I don't think we would have had time for that anyway. Love the casting platforms on your boats. Temps back home in MN were 0 and colder and temps on Lake Huitis were in the low 80's. What's not to like about that? I will most definitely be back. Thanks again for a great time.

I want to say that I really enjoyed the entire experience and am looking forward to returning. I must say that the food and maid service was beyond all expectations. The fishing was great and the hospitality of the staff, second to none. I look forward to communicating with you in the future concerning booking another trip. Thank you again for a truly memorable experience.

Just returned from Trophy Bass Lodge...The Spawn is on at Lake Huites!

January 30, 2009

The "fishing is fantastic" on Huites right now. That's what Jimmy Phelps of Lombard, Illinois said over and over last week "this is just fantastic"..."I'm having such a great time." He was and in a just a moment I'll tell you why.

It all started with an email from my friend and Old Lure Collector/Dealer Extraordinaire Dan Basore. Dan had just concluded a seminar in which Jimmy was in attendance. The subject of Bass Fishing in Mexico came up and Dan, set for a trip with me in January to Trophy Bass Lodge and Lake Huites, asked Jimmy if he would like to join the group.

On November 28, 2008, Jimmy emailed me some information and concluded with this, "I can't tell you how excited I am about this trip...my bags are already packed." Jimmy was in with the group of 8 of Dan's lure collecting buddies along with some other friends and myself.

On the morning of January 22 the group arrived at Trophy Bass Lodge in time for a late breakfast. After settling in with luggage and tackle the guy's got geared up and headed to the boats where the guides were waiting and ready. I took Jimmy with me that first afternoon and we quickly got acquainted while sharing the casting deck.

I asked Jimmy what happened to the partner he was supposed to bring but had to cancel. He said, "thing's just didn't work out and he couldn't make the trip." I told him that his buddy would be sorry when Jimmy returned home to show him his pictures of all his big fish! Jimmy said, "Well, I sure hope so, I've been thinkin' I'd like to fish Mexico for a few years." I assured him, he would have some Big Fish pictures to return home with! I'm not sure he took me seriously.

We had a great afternoon that first day and would have the opportunity to fish together several more times over the next 6 days. He was a great boat partner and adapted quickly to the techniques of fishing the rock faces and points of Huites which can require a lot of casting parallel to the shore line. I'd share the casting deck again with Jimmy Phelps any time.

Everyone comes to Mexico with the hopes of a catch that will exceed their personal best but few are found in the elite group that manage to do it several times on their first trip. Jimmy joins this group...he not only caught the "numbers" but he had the Big Fish of the trip as well...in fact, he had two of the Big Fish of the trip. His giant was a "spawned out" Big Girl of 10 ½ #. This fish could have easily been 12# if caught a few days or perhaps even just a few hours earlier!

That's right...the spawn is on at Huites! The weather has been warm and the typical February spawn has come early by several weeks. A big group of females moved up in mid January and spawned "early" with the January full moon. We found fry all over the lake. The next group will move up with the full moon of February and unless the weather makes a sudden and severe change the February move may be the last.

With an early spawn, I look for March, April and May to produce some of the best post spawn fishing Huites has seen in the past 5 years. The shad population is huge...the lake levels are perfect for post spawn fishing on humps, saddles, drops and weather patterns are stable.

Huites is staged to explode with giant bass! Huites may very well be the Best of the Best of the Great Mexican Bass Fishing Destinations!

HERE'S JIMMY with a "Big Girl" that fell victim to a Bomber Fat Free Shad.

Lake Huites is producing both Numbers and Big Fish!
Over the course of the last several years Lake Huites has played second fiddle to some of the other Mexican lakes. But that chapter is concluded now. Lake Huites takes no back seat any longer. As the above reports confirm the numbers of 6-9 pound fish in Huites is just astounding. This fishery is in great shape with all the conditions in place for an incredible post spawn spring/early summer season. One of the best kept secrets about Huites are the post spawn months of March, April, May and early June. The weather in the States has generally moderated and the "gringo's" tend to stay home on their favorite lakes. Sure it's hot in Mexico, but friends, the fishing just gets better and better the hotter it gets. For a sample of what can happen check out my friend Dan Basore's report from last May. Text book post spawn fishing on ledges, humps, saddles, sunken gravel bars...and hungry Grande Bass!

I have some great dates available and our Big Bass Stimulus Packages are priced like never before, and frankly, will not likely ever be priced this way again.
