Trophy Bass Lodge Lake Huites:

Scenic Lake Huites Presa Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta... The "Legendary" Lake Huites... is
without a doubt, one of the most pristine and scenic lakes in all of Mexico. Nestled in the foothills of
the rugged Sierra Madre Mountains, this beautiful high desert mountain reservoir was created by damming the
Rio Chinipa and Fuerte rivers. Huites was impounded in 1993 by the Mexican Government, predominantly for
agricultural purposes to provide a consistent means of irrigation to the fertile fields and farmland in the
valley below. Huites opened to public fishing in October 1997.
Once called the "Mystery Lake" this beautiful body of water is loaded with Bass! Huites
(pronounced "Wheates") was initially stocked with Florida Bass from the El Fuerte River system back in the
70s. When the dam was finished, subsequent stockings with pure Florida Strain Largemouth Bass continued and
have created an incredible largemouth bass
North American Fisherman's
Ryan Gilligan with Huites Trophyfishery that has surpassed the expectations of any new lake in the
world at this time. Hundreds of bass over 10 pounds have been caught and released at this great new lake!
International Game Fish Association (IGFA) Representative Eduardo Perusquia Moran writes, "Lake Huites is considered the most productive bass fishing lake in Mexico... In direct relation to documented largemouth bass weight, the best bass lakes in Mexico are:" #1 Lake Huites

Huites is Quietly but Quickly earning
the reputation of "Legendary."
Always known as a numbers lake,
Huites is now producing the
Giant Trophies as well!
The bass in Lake Huites are growing at a rate of 2 pounds per year, so it's no wonder so many fishermen are looking for their largest Bass to be caught at this beautiful new reservoir. Anglers are making the run South of the Border and converging on Huites to test their skills against these strong Huites bass and they're leaving "Hooked on Huites."
One of the reasons Lake Huites is full of fast growing bass is the longer growing season. Additional enhancements are the huge forage base and the plentiful and diverse structure that exists along its banks and shores. With a forage base consisting of Shad, crayfish and the protein packed Tilapia, the average bass in this young lake is already around 4 to 5 pounds, and it's not uncommon for experienced anglers to have catches of 100 to 200 bass per day per boat weighing anywhere from 2 to 10 lbs, and the behemoths up to 14 lbs are showing up as well.
The current lake record, caught in May of 2001 by the late "Wild Bill" Skinner, stands at
15 pounds 3 ounces!
Mark Davis, Host of
Big Water Adventures TelevisionThat bass was released and is still lurking in the timber filled cove
she was caught in. Now she's just waiting for someone to entice her once again with the right presentation and
offering.... it could be you! With these bass gaining two pounds per year what could that fish weigh
now?
Not bad for a lake as young as Huites. This lake has the potential to produce the next world record some day. One positive Lake Huites has in its favor is that not many drive-in boaters from the States or Mexico fish her waters. The road into this remote fishery is just too rough for most drive down US anglers. Additionally, the commercial netting has some good restrictions and enforcement. That fact in itself will insure many years of Super Bassin' at this great lake!
From early October until December, the bass at this pristine lake will hit almost any offering. From incredible top water action, some say the best on the planet, to working the humps with worms and lizards and everything in between. Fall fishing on Huites is rapidly gaining the attention of bassin' fin'atics from around the world!
Then in January the bass begin to make the move into their pre-spawn mood when a spinner bait
or Lake Toho Spoon usually rules with plastics and crank baits doing well also. The classic spawn begins in
February and usually carries into March when the Big Girls are busting with eggs and are willing to hit most
anything that is worked slow and deliberate. During April, May and June, anglers can expect to get into some
good numbers and really Big Fish in the post spawn, by slow rolling a large spinner
Like our friend Darius from Lithuania bait or digging a deep diving crank bait on the bottom in deep
water! Throwing a big, Bill Dance Fat Free Shad across bald points in the late afternoon is one of the main
reasons why I fish Mexico. Giant Mexican Bass in May, now that's the ticket for some heart stopping action
that most Bass fishermen are missing out on. Sure it's hot in Mexico in May but the Bassin' is hot as well.
You can catch some AC back at the Lodge.
Lake Huites is a catch and release lake. This disciplined practice has proven valuable for this young Mexican lake. What about my Trophy you might ask? As with all catch and release lakes, anglers simply take a photo of their trophy, weigh the fish and measure the length and girth, then slip her back in the water to live and grow. Once you do that then I can have a replica of your fish mounted for you by our good friend Gary Fisher and his artists at Great Fish Reproduction Studios! Your replica will look like it just swam out of the water! You won't believe the detail.
